Anyone who has heard us knows we use Flash sound boards, some of which Sabs made and others which we downloaded. One issue with them is that once they're made the samples are set and can't be changed so to get new samples we need to get a whole new sound board. Also the soundboards generally aren't mapped to keys so each sample requires a click of the mouse, which makes playing consecutive samples difficult unless the buttons sit close to one another. Finally the sample has to play completely before you click another or they play over the top of one another.

So I sat down on the weekend and made something that got around all these problems. It isn't that pretty but it does the job. Shouts to Lemon Teatime, Mr Widget, Midnight Wilde, and KaiLastOfTheBrunnenG for the default samples.

Here's a quick Alienspeaking Sample Machine FAQ to help you along:

What is it?
A windows program written in VB.Net 2.0 that plays WAV files mapped to keys on the keyboard. It only plays WAV files with a .wav extension.

How do I install it?
Download the file above. If you don't have Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 the installation will prompt you to download it, it's best to download it first and install. The installation of the Sample Machine will create a shortcut on your desktop. You can uninstall it if you don't like it from your Control Panel - Add Remove Programs.

Does it come with samples?
Yes, it has 18 samples of alienspeaking shout outs.

Can I add my own samples?
Yes, you need to edit an XML file and name your samples according to the key you want to activate them. Info on how to do this is included in the readme file.

Do you have any other samples?
There are some drum kit samples that you can download here. Unzip these samples into a folder inside the folder where you installed the application. You can then enter the name of the folder and load those samples into the player.

Why won't two samples play at once?
Because I only spent a day on it so far and have not made it multi threaded.

Email us if you have any other questions.
